Traditional Christmas market at Springer Nature in Heidelberg supports three local charities

Christmas market at Springer Nature Heidelberg generated 27.600 EUR for local charity projects

Heidelberg, 20 January 2020 

The annual Christmas market of and for employees of Springer Nature in Heidelberg once again achieved an outstanding sum of 13,800 EUR in donations. The publishing house management is doubling this, so that three local projects in the Rhine-Neckar region will receive a total of 27,600 EUR. The Christmas market – an annual tradition for more than 30 years –  is always organized with great attention to detail by the employees, the HR department, and the Works Council. This time the charitable proceeds will support three local projects: Frauen helfen Frauen e.V. and the Hospice Luise will receive EUR 12,500 and the Kurpfalz-Schule Heidelberg will receive EUR 2,600 for a specific project that is focused on nature preservation. 

The Christmas marked featured a raffle, a second-hand clothes stand, the sale of used-books, jewelry and art as well as countless homemade delicacies. The scent of cake, fresh waffles, and mulled wine created an authentic Christmas mood. And Santa himself was once again on site, giving out sweets to the children and actively collecting additional donations.

"As Human Resources Manager for Springer Nature in Heidelberg, I am very proud of our joint social commitment in the run-up to Christmas. The preparation, focus and selection of the projects that are to be supported by our traditional Christmas market was once again the responsibility of the local employees and the Works Council. For more than 30 years, this outstanding commitment has been an expression of their solidarity with Heidelberg. Like before, the management is very happy to support this initiative by doubling the proceeds to support institutions and initiatives in the Rhine-Neckar region," said Birgit Kolb.

The association ‘Frauen helfen Frauen e.V. Heidelberg’ has been committed to tackling domestic violence against women, girls and boys for almost 40 years and offers professional advice, support and protection. In the Louise Hospice, people in their last phase of life and their relatives receive support, advice and medical and nursing care. Further information: Link (in German)

Sustainability is an integral part of the pedagogical work at Kurpfalz School in Heidelberg, where the care, preservation and transfer of knowledge about the biological diversity of fruit tree meadows is on the curriculum.  Further information: Link (in German)
