Heidelberg | Dordrecht, 22 November 2018

Journal cover: Discover Applied SciencesArticles addressing advances in technology, machine learning, waste water treatment and remote sensing were the first to be published in a new SN-branded journal in the past few weeks. SN Applied Sciences was set up in July 2018 and has already received over 1000 submissions. Five newly appointed in-house managing editors are coordinating the submission, peer review and publication process. The first issue is will be published in January 2019.

SN Applied Sciences was founded in response to the increasing volume of article submissions on applications and industry-related research. In particular, the journal hopes to appeal to authors from regions in the world where applied research is prolific, such as in Asia.

All articles published in the journal will be free to access during the first two years of publication. Authors are also able to choose whether to publish their research at no cost, for readers to access via a subscription, or through an article processing charge (APC) so that their article is available for everyone permanently as open access.

Nathalie Jacobs, Executive Editor at Springer Nature said: “We hope that SN Applied Sciences will appeal to a diverse range of scientists who are keen to benefit from fast, highly visible dissemination of their work. We are especially excited that the journal already has a larger number of community-driven topical collections that deal with some of our most pressing societal issues such as air pollution and artificial intelligence.”

Professor Vladan Radulovic of the University of Montenegro, who recently published his first article in SN Applied Sciences, said: “I would like to commend the editors and the whole team for the all activities related to the process of manuscript submission, reviewing of the manuscript and the preparation of the manuscript for printing. The process is very straightforward and clear. Also, the turnaround time exceeded our expectations. This is the way to go for the recently started journal regarding motivation of the authors to publish their research in the journal. My colleagues and I will certainly do that in the future!”
